The drawing competition “Peace and war through the eyes of Donbas children”, which was launched by community initiative “Restoring Donbas”, lasts for two months. More than 200 pictures were received during this time. Donbas children (from the both sides of demarcation line) and children-IDPs have an opportunity to take part in this contest. The drawings of children, whose native cities come under fire every day (Marinka, Krasnogorovka, Avdeevka), have the biggest value. Some of these children are in evacuation in Svyatogorye – the wellness center “Izumrudniy Gorod.”
Children, who live in territories beyond the Ukrainian control, – Donetsk, Luhansk, Gorlovka, Snezhnoe, Torez, Amvrosievka – actively take part in the competition. We receive pictures from both the children of ordinary Donbas families and specialized educational institutions. Thus, pupils from Donetsk special boarding school №22, which was damaged by shelling, sent their pictures. Donetsk youth organization “Maximal” provides assistance to initiative in the collection of drawings from Donbas territory.
Paintings of the participants are regularly published on the restoring-donbass.com website and on «Restoring Donbas» pages in social networks. The contest will end on September 1. We will name seven winners of the competition. They will receive a prize – a laptop or tablet.
In addition, by the end of the competition, community initiative “Restoring Donbas” will prepare a publication with a collection of children’s drawings and stories of children, which were received by the organizers of “Peace and war through the eyes of Donbas children”. Copies of this publication will be sent to both the government and all foreign and international organizations, which can influence on the resolution of the conflict.
Children – is the most vulnerable side in any conflict. The depth of their emotional experiences, stories of their lives – are the factor that can and should influence on the decisions at the highest level … Nowadays we receive more and more pictures that impress to the marrow of ours bones. We believe that we not only give children the opportunity to reveal their creativity, but also help them to be heard during this difficult time “. It was stated by Elena Petryaeva – the head of the community initiative “Restoring Donbas”.
Let us remind that children from Donbas in age from 5 to 16 years, who live in DNR and LNR areas, Donbas territories, which are under Ukrainian control, or in other regions of Ukraine and abroad, can participate in the contest. We also invite children from orphanages located in uncontrolled areas or displaced persons. Besides drawing, participants on their own or with their friends, relatives or guardians have to present short story about theirselves in the context of events in Donbas. More details about terms of competition and the requirements for contest drawings are on the website “Restoring Donbas”, in the section “Our projects”, “Peace and war through the eyes of Donbas children”
