Martin Saydik and Darka Olifer summed up Minsk Contact Group meeting on May 18

Martin Saydik, the special representative of OSCE Contact Group in Ukraine, summarized the meeting of Minsk Group.
Saydik admitted the intensiveness of discussions on the issue of the prisoners at the humanitarian sub-group of Minsk Contact group. Thought the progress on the issue was not observed.
– Humanitarian subgroup discussed the point of release of illegally detained persons. The parties have different views on this issue … Unfortunately, the parties have not made any progress, – said Mr Saydik.
However, he noted the decrease in the number of violations of the regime of silence in the armed conflict zone in the Donbas.
“We are noting a significant reduction in the number of ceasefire violations … Safety subgroup continued its work to achieve the goal (ceasefire – ed.) – added OSCE Special Representative.
Mr Saydik also said that political subgroup of Minsk Contact Group postponed the discussion of an amnesty till the next meeting.
– Political subgroup continued detailed discussion on the modalities of the elections, – said OSCE special representative.
Darka Olifer, press-secretary of ex-president of Ukraine, the participant of Minsk contact group Leonid Kuchma, said that everyone should observe complete ceasefire in order to continue work on the political, humanitarian and economic issues.
She stated that in other case that elections in some territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions do not seem real.
As previously reported the US wants a speedy implementation of the Minsk agreements.
