Very low coverage of vaccination and critical shortage of vaccine conceded to be on uncontrolled territories of Donetsk region stated by UNICEF. So UNICEF is looking for a sponsor and waits for specific information from the de-facto authorities of the unrecognized republics on the number of vaccines that need to be purchased.
Unfortunately, we do not have reliable information about the situation that has developed there with vaccination. But, of course, there is a very low coverage and there is a shortage of vaccine. Thus, it is important that the international community has been able to deliver humanitarian aid. Discussions are underway, but so far there is no plan, “- said Giovanna Barberis, the head of the UNICEF Office in Ukraine.
Giovanna Barberis said that UNICEF has offices in Donetsk and Luhansk, and contacts with the de-facto authorities of the unrecognized DNR and LNR.
We expect specific numbers to plan purchases of this part of the Donbas (uncontrolled territories). But we also need financial support, which will help us to buy the vaccine for those areas that are not controlled by the Ukrainian government. Of course, what we buy today is part of the state budget, and, as you know, the state budget can not cover all needs. We are ready to purchase and deliver vaccines to Donetsk and Lugansk, but now we are looking for sponsors, – Giovanna Barberis summed.
Earlier, it was reported that there was a shortage of vaccine against rabies in Khartsyzk (non controlled area).
