Every thirtieth refugee and displaced person in the world – comes from Donbas

According to UN calculations, among the 60 million refugees and displaced persons there are 2 million refugees and displaced persons from Donbas). The corresponding statistics was introduced by the representatives of the UN and the employees of the State Service for Emergency Situations and the State Migration Service of Ukraine at a press conference on the occasion of International Refugee Day.
Jean-Noel Vattervald, the acting head of the Office of the UN High Commissioner on Refugees in Ukraine operation, stated that in 2015 the number of people, who were forced to leave their homes, became the largest for recent years.
“About 60 million people were forced to leave their homes, about 20 million of them are refugees, half of them are children. It happens in every continent of the world. This means that each of the 122 people in this world are refugees or displaced persons”, – said Vattervald.
Also, the UN representative noted that in 2014-2015 there were only a few conflicts (which led to population movement) that have been resolved.
“Only 126,000 people, who have become refugees, returned to the places of their permanent residence this year. This is the smallest number in the history of UN WFP, “- claimed Vattervald.
In 2010, slightly more than 10 thousand people became displaced persons and refugees due to the conflict. This year, given number has grown up by more than 42 thousand “, – he added.
Employees of the State Migration Service, which were at the conference, noted that according to recent data (up-to-June 8), 1.325 million displaced persons were registered in Ukraine.
According to Oleg Melchutsky, first deputy head of the State Service for Emergency Situations of Ukraine, nowadays, the majority of internally displaced persons are located in Luhansk region – 190 thousand people, in Kharkov – there are 174.3 thousand people, in Donetsk –109.5 thousand people, in Dnipropetrovsk –84 thousand people, in Zaporozhye – 62.8 thousand people, in Kiev region – 41,4 thousand people, in Kiev – 39 thousand. The lowest number of internally displaced persons was registered in Ternopil, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Zakarpattya and Volyn regions. There are 3 thousand displaced persons from Donbas per region.
Among citizens, who have left the country, which are, in fact, refugees, the largest number has emigrated to the Russian Federation (341.6 thousand people currently). In second place – there are refugees in Belarus (around 81 thousand people). 8.5 thousand people have moved to Poland. The number of applications for refugee status in Ukraine has increased to 11 thousand in the EU.
Thus, there are 2 million displaced persons and refugees, who have left their homes due to the conflict in Donbas, in the whole world.
