New Community and Cultural Center to be Opened in Druzhkivka – Restoring Donbas

“My Shevchenko”, the exposition dedicated to the 202nd anniversary from the date of birth of Taras Shevchenko, has been opened today at Lesya Ukrainka Municipal Central Library of Druzhkivka. The exhibition is hosted by “Restoring Donbas” Community Initiative, its partners are: T. Shevchenko National Museum and T. Shevchenko State Secondary Art School.
The exhibition presents Banner Exposition “Life and Creative Work of Taras Shevchenko”, containing 12 wide-format banners, which relate and illustrate the path of life and creative work of the great Ukrainian. Local residents have also had a look at 34 works of the students of the art school, dedicated to the anniversary of the birth of the great Ukrainian poet.
As Tamara Lukianchuk, Advisor to the Governor of Donetsk province, noted: “The meaning of this exhibition cannot be overstated. And particularly now, that the times are so hard. We all need to know and understand his legacy. Everyone sees him in one’s own way, but at the same time his legacy unites us, Ukrainians”.
At the exhibition opening “Restoring Donbas” Community Initiative, T. Shevchenko National Museum and Druzhkivka City Administration signed a cooperation agreement, which provides for establishing of the modern community and cultural multicenter “Hrailyk” at the premises of Lesya Ukrainka Municipal Central Library of Druzhkivka.
Olena Petryayeva, Head of the Initiative, said: “We have made the first step towards opening of the new modern communication center today. It will work both for residents of the city and of the entire region. With this center we will raise the cultural level of the region, help with the development of cultural institutions of the city, create a field for all-round development of the coming generation. We will get the leading specialists of Ukraine in the sphere of education, science and culture involved in the work of the center. Establishment of such a contemporary space will realize a purposeful entertainment of users: children, youth, parents, families, adult population”.
The Center is planned to contain several zones: Recreational and Educational Center “Ua” with clubs for studying Ukrainian and English, out-of-school class “Reading to Children”, Internet Center “Infomouse”, as well as a creative zone with arranging various workshops at its premises.
As Valerii Hnatenko, Druzhkivka Mayor, noted: “I strongly hope that cooperation of our city and “Restoring Donbas” Initiative will be fruitful and long-term. The multicenter establishment project is of great importance for us. We create a complete platform for cultural development of children and youth of our region. It’s symbolic that the agreement has been signed this very day, on the date of birth of Taras Shevchenko. With such actions we try to fulfill his dream of prosperous Ukraine, united nation and happy future for every Ukrainian”.
Children, pupils of Druzhkivka Music School, “Intellect” Gymnasium and Children and Youth Creativity Center, performed before visitors and participants of the exhibition.
