“Restoring Donbas” Community Initiative summed the results of the competition of embroidery, bead weaving and decorative and applied arts “Easter Vernissage”. Residents of Donetsk and Luhansk provinces (both adults and children), as well as internally displaced persons participated in the competition. Works by the participants of the competition will be exhibited in Taras Shevchenko National Museum on 26 April 2016.
According to Olena Petryayeva, Head of the Initiative: “With this competition we show cultural and ethnic Ester traditions of the Ukrainian people, uniting generations on the basis of a joint creative process, draw public attention to Donbas residents, both to those who left and those staying. You will see their hopes for peaceful future of our country and the future of Donbas, as an integral part of Ukraine, via beauty and spirituality of the works”.
The competition was held from 3 February to 8 April 2016. Within that period more than 100 works from Donbas adults and children, including children reared in establishments for orphans, lacking parental care, in special establishments, came to the address of the Initiative. Absolute indifference towards politics was the principal condition of the competition.
Apart from the representatives of “Restoring Donbas” Community Initiative the jury also included: Marta Lopatii, Deputy General Director for Popularization of Science of Taras Shevchenko National Museum, Liudmyla Tykhonova, Leading Research Fellow of the National Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art. Svitlana Yatsenko, Academic Secretary of the National Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art became the head of the competition jury.
In the process of discussion of the competitive works the members of the jury took into account both artistic merit and meaning and emotional filling.
“Works by children, especially children from specialized establishments, showed very high craftsmanship. The quality of such works, especially with due regard to stylistics being characteristic both for the East of Ukraine and for the West, shows how united the traditions of the Ukrainian people are, how they are interwoven with each other. I was agreeably surprised by the wide creative range of works, traditional and modern techniques of decorative art, vivid imagination and professional excellence of the participants”, – Svitlana Yatsenko, Head of the Jury, admitted.
Based on the results of the competition, members of the jury determined seven winners, among them:
Maksym Khomenko, 7 years old, pupil of “Believe in yourself” Mariupol Municipal Club, for competitive work “Rebirth of Life”;
Andrii Hrekov, 16 years old, foster child of Druzhkivka Children’s Residential Care Home, for competitive work “Easter Bouquet”;
Oleksandr Kyrtiuk, 17 years old, foster child of “Smaragdove Misto” Sanatorium and Recreation Centre for Social Rehabilitation, Donetsk province, for competitive work “Easter Spring”;
Mykyta Hryshko, 8 years old, Yalta, Pershotravnevyi region, Donetsk province, for competitive work “Easter Pysanka”;

Mariia Pohorila, 15 years old, Druzhkivka, Donetsk province, for competitive work “Rushnyk “Christ is Risen”;

Among adult participants the victory was won by Svitlana Tkelushka, Lysychansk, Luhansk province, for competitive work “Let your Heart Rejoice”.

In addition to that, as a result of the voting on the page of “Restoring Donbas” Community Initiative on Facebook social media platform, the audience choice award was given to the work “Easter Miracle” by Svitlana Taranska, 11 years old, from Lysychansk, Luhansk province.
The authors of eight best works will receive awards and presents (sets for embroidering, bead weaving, painting, decorative and applied arts).
In the coming days the representatives of “Restoring Donbas” Community Initiative will make contact with all winners in the competition. The winners will be additionally informed on the date and place of the awarding ceremony.
