Vatican announced the projects selections of social, religious and charitable organizations that provide assistance to IDPs. For now, first ten organizations had received funding to assist to approximately 500,000 of internally displaced persons.
According to website of Catholic Church humanitarian movement “Pope for Ukraine”, the Committee submitted more than 370 projects from non-profit social and religious organizations. Currently more than 60 projects had been chosen.
“The Organisational Committee had chosen 40 small-scaled projects amounted €800,000, and about 20 large projects worth about €5 million”- said on the website.
The organizers specify that preference is given to those organizations that work on the front line and provide assistance to the people living along the contact line.
“People living along the contact line, as a rule, do not have even the basic necessities – food, water, warm clothes, and medicines. They do not have money to buy anything. They even do not know where to get them. Often we face with situations when in villages where people live; there are no pharmacies, grocery stores. To get to the nearest village many of people simply have the no opportunity. We need to pay special attention to those people, “- Ruslan Lavlinskiy, Vice President of the movement “Pope for Ukraine” stressed.
According to Ruslan Lavlinskiy, food, medicine, houses renovation, heating and rehabilitation are the main sectors to cover.
“We can say that the potential number of direct beneficiaries is about 100,000 and more than 300,000 are indirect, including hospitals, families,” – Lavlinskiy said. And also added that in fact the number of beneficiaries is rather small, but it’s the first step to start.
Earlier, it was reported that Pope wants to visit Donbas.
