As stated by Maria Zolkina, the analyst of the Fund of Democratic initiatives after Ilka Kucheriv the majority of Ukrainians are sympathizing to the residents of Donbas considering them as hostages of the situation and only 6% referred to those who remained on the uncontrolled territories as traitors.
– Regardless the political manipulation in Ukrainian society there is no hostility and aggression towards people who remained on the uncontrolled territories. Mostly sympathetic attitude to people, because the vast majority of Ukrainians believe those who have been there, are hostages. 30% believe that they are held hostage to certain circumstances (family, material and financial), which do not allow people to leave the uncontrolled territory. We have 25% who believe that these people hostage of illegal armed groups, and 14.5% believe that these people hostage, but the hostages failed policies of the Ukrainian authorities on the uncontrolled territories. Thus, sympathetic attitude prevails in absolutely all the regions of Ukraine, – Zolkina said.
She added that a stable 70% of Ukrainians believe that we need to focus on the compromises.
– However, when it comes to specific options for those compromises there is no readiness to it, – Zolkina admitted.
Public initiative “Restoring Donbass” reportedly is conducting a survey regarding the penalties while crossing the check points.
