Residents of 36 settlements of the “gray zone” of Donbass will receive sets of seeds of vegetable crops, as well as potatoes for planting as part of the initiative of the Pope Francis to provide assistance to war-affected people in eastern Ukraine.
Fundraising was held for the needs of affected people from Donbas at the call of the Pope on 24 April in all Roman Catholic churches in Europe. Later, the pontiff himself allocated 5 million euro from his personal fund making the total amount of assistance around 16 million euros.
The new “vegetable” project is implemented by the Charity Association “Emmanuel”, which received a grant of 27,000 euros.
Approximately 6,000 families from 36 settlements of Donetsk and Luhansk regions will receive vegetable seeds (carrots, beets, cabbage, tomatoes, zucchini, corn, peas, radish, sorrel, parsley) and sowing potatoes.
In late March, the first vehicle with planting potatoes arrived to Donbass from Mykolayiv region.
The internally displaced family from Donetsk had opened a mushroom farm in Bakhmut.
